The Hibbard Building

This landmark building has been a Downtown Colorado Springs fixture for more than 100 years. It originally operated as a family-owned department store until its closing in 1996. In 2005, Elder Construction was selected to assist the Hibbard family and RTA Architects in providing an updated, modern feel to this historic building. The goal was to keep the character of the original building while also facilitating new uses and multi-tenant flexibility. New steel, brick and granite materials were combined to create separate building and restaurant entrances while maintaining the raised platform display-like windows of an earlier time. The resulting new and improved storefront has given passerby a glimpse into Colorado Springs’ rich past, and helps maintain the historic feel of downtown.

A four-story brick and white stone building at dusk, warmly lit from within. On the street level, signs for "Hibernian Co." pub and "Chipotle Mexican Grill" are visible. The sky is a deep blue, blending into the night. Light trails from passing cars are seen in the foreground.
