Fort Collins Montessori School’s New Campus Breaks Ground

PSD charter school under construction at the southwest corner of West Harmony Road and South Shields Street

On February 1, 2020 Fort Collins Montessori School (FCMS) staff, students, and parents came together with the project teams from Elder Construction and Hauser Architects to celebrate the ground break for FCMS’ new campus located on the southwest corner of West Harmony Road and South Shields Street.

The new campus, designed by Hauser Architects and constructed by Elder Construction, will combine FCMS’ two existing locations into one and offer space for an additional 60 students.  Opening Fall of 2020, the first phase includes one building just under 15,000 square feet with two playgrounds to support Pre-K through 6th grade. The design provides open classroom settings with a connection to the outdoors and plenty of natural day lighting.  The corridor space allows for circulation and provides areas for additional learning.

“Elder Construction is proud to participate in building schools.  Endeavors like the Fort Colllins Montessori School lets us, in a small way, contribute to the growth and education of our youth, and allows us to live out our vision to ‘leave this place better than we found it’.  This work matters and brings deep meaning to our team. Schooling is an absolute fundamental step to a successful life, and we feel privileged to be a part of the team that is going to secure the success of the children in our community for years to come.  ‘Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere’ – Chinese Proverb” – Chris Elder, President, Elder Construction

Families and FCMS staff had quite an experience on Saturday as their shovels threw dirt and pictures were snapped to capture the moment. In addition to dirt flying, FCMS also created a learning experience where kids could plant marigolds to nurture at home.

Fort Collins Montessori School is the only public elementary Montessori option in Northern Colorado. It offers full- and half-day preschool as well as a tuition-free K-6th. Applications for enrollment are being accepted now – learn more at www.focomontessori.org.
